Bombay kedisi, Birman kedisi ve siyah American Shorthair kedileri yetiştirilerek, çoğunlukla Birman tipi bir kedi üretmek için geliştirilmiştir, Şık, panter benzeri siyah postlu, kısa tüylü bir kedi türüdür. Bombay kedisine "Siyah Birman" ve "mini panter" de denilmektedir.
